MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS HRH PRINCESS LINDIWE RECEIVES LAPTOPS TO ENHANCE REFUGEE EDUCATION

The Minister of Home Affairs HRH Princess Lindiwe has today received 12 laptops aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for refugees at the Malindza Reception Centre. The event highlighted the ongoing commitment to support and empower young learners amidst challenging circumstances.
Speaking
on behalf of the Minister, Principal Secretary Nhlanhla Nxumalo recognized the
long-standing partnership between the school and the Ministry of Home Affairs
through the Refugees Department. He commended the school's unwavering support
for promoting education, particularly for marginalized communities.
"This handover of 12 laptops
is not just a gesture of generosity; it is a gift of opportunity, dignity, and
hope for our learners," said the Minister. She
emphasized the importance of providing refugees with the tools necessary for
academic success.
Jackie
Otula, Principal of Waterford Kamhlaba, explained that the initiative is driven
by students. "This project is about enabling members of the community who
are less fortunate to access IT facilities and learn," she stated. Otula
reiterated the project's focus on building hope and expressed gratitude to the
students who dedicated their time and effort to ensure its success.
Phuc
Ahn Hoang, a representative of Waterford students from Vietnam, shared insights
about the project’s objectives. "Our aim is to provide learning spaces and
an IT center for students at Mpaka, allowing them to access more educational
materials online," he explained. Hoang emphasized that this initiative is
ongoing, stating, "This is not the end; we are committed to continuing our
efforts."
The
donation of laptops marks a significant step forward in enhancing education for
young refugees, fostering a sense of community and support that resonates
beyond the classroom. As the initiative progresses, it promises to pave the way
for a brighter future for students at the Malindza Reception Centre.
