KING MSWATI III POSTPONES UMKHANDLU TO SUNDAY
His Majesty King Mswati III has officially announced the postponement of Umkhandlu to Sunday, a significant shift from the traditional schedule. The announcement was made through Indvuna Phindile Matsebula during the second session of the Buganu ceremony held at the Hlane Royal Residence.
Umkhandlu, typically celebrated on the same day as the vibrant and colorful song and dance festivities, will now take place tomorrow, departing from its usual early morning hours. Lutsango, is set to receive Tinkuzi, the ceremonial offerings, and will depart for their respective communities on Monday, following the day of festivities.
During the first session of the Buganu ceremong held at Buhleni Royal Residence, His Majesty King Mswati III declared that the Monday following the Hlane Buganu ceremony will be observed as a public holiday. This decision allows Lutsango members and the public to celebrate and return to their communities without the urgency of daily work commitments.
This year’s Buganu celebrations are characterized by a spirit of unity and cultural pride, as the nation comes together to honor traditions and heritage. The rescheduling of Umkhandlu reflects a commitment to enhancing the overall experience of the ceremony, providing a fuller opportunity for participation and celebration.
