KING MSWATI III DECLARES BUGANU CEREMONY HOLIDAY
| His Majesty King Mswati III delivers speech at Buhleni Royal Residence arena |
His
Majesty King Mswati III announced yesterday at the Buhleni Royal Residence the
establishment of a holiday to commemorate the Buganu ceremony. The proclamation
was made during the first session of the ceremony, where the King highlighted
that the Lutsango regiment has traditionally not enjoyed its own holiday,
prompting this significant decision.
The
King explained that the new holiday will take effect when the regiments convene
for their second session at Hlane. Furthermore, this holiday will be merged
with the celebrations of King Sobuza II, and will take place every Monday
following the Hlane Buganu ceremony.
In
a move to align this new holiday with other significant cultural observances,
the King noted that while it will share characteristics with the Umhlanga and
Incwala holidays, it will not be a statutory holiday. Instead, the holiday will
be announced and formally gazetted by the Minister of Home Affairs following confirmation
of the Hlane Buganu ceremony date.
It
is important to note that July 22 will now remain a normal working day.
The
decision reflects the King’s commitment to honoring the traditions and
regimental practices of Eswatini, ensuring that all warriors are recognized and
celebrated during this important cultural period. The Buganu ceremony plays a
crucial role in the rich heritage of the nation, and the introduction of this
holiday underscores the significance of the Lutsango regiment in the kingdom’s societal
framework.
